Is Christianity a Religion?
Is Christianity a Religion?
People normally remark on how many times a day other religions pray and how they go about exercising their acts of worship to meet the requirements of reasonable worship according to their religion. It’s often said that we as Christian are not doing enough and we ought to do more etc.
First of all Christianity is not a religion- it’s a lifestyle, a way of life. So wherever, whenever at any given time you can pray or heal the sick witness to someone. You don’t have to wait for church to start, you are the church. So the word religion is an under statement for Christianity. Christianity is so much more than that.
You don’t have to try and impress God with your good behavior and many sacrifices. He already sacrificed his son before we came around so we don’t feel like we owe him our worship.
The scripture saying: I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU NOR FORSAKE YOU? Is it the spirit in us or is it about any problem you’ve got?
Thank you Sharmaine for asking this question. This Scripture appeared the first time in the Old Testament when God was assuring Joshua that as he was with Moses so he will be with Him. Surely God meant that whatever Joshua will face he should be certain that God is always there for his assistance as in Moses' time. So it does mean that God is with us when we face difficulty. He is always available; all we need to do is to call on Him.
Secondly: In the new testament Jesus make a promise to He's disciples that he will be with them until the end of the age (world). Surely he was referring to His Spirit which they were soon to receive.
We have to understand that the spirit of God was not yet manifested in the Old Testament and God did not always dwell with them. God visited many of the Old Testament saints and prophets at diverse times and manners as he pleased. After the fall of Adam, God said that His spirit will not always dwell with men, because of men’s sinful nature. This is why David pleaded with God not to take His spirit away from him when he sinned.
When the birth of Jesus was announced the angel said “He shall be called Immanuel” meaning God with us. Through the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ we became the temple of the Holy Ghost. This Holy Ghost is God in the spirit. And He is everywhere at the same time (omniscient) therefore God is always with us. He does not visit us, he dwell among us and in those who received salvation. So he is with you wherever you may go or whatever you may face. Just call upon His name.
I attach the passages I quoted for further study.
• Jos 1:5 No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you.
• Mat 28:20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."
• Gen 6:3 Then the LORD said, "My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years."
• Psa 51:11 Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
• Mat 1:23 "Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel" (which means, God with us).
